7 Secrets Every Newb Internet Marketer Should Know

It is inevitable that anyone new to this industry will suffer a learning curve, I certainly did. In retrospect, I laugh at all the rookie mistakes I was making. Being in the industry for almost 3 years I have a much faster learning rate for new methods of marketing and better comprehension of the industry in general.

Below are a few secrets Internet newbies should embrace when launching their new product, service, or opportunity.

1. Get the right training.

If you are an Internet newb, then this will be the single most important decision you will make. Yes, you can learn all about Internet marketing through trial and error, but who in the hell wants to? Without the proper guidance, it will probably take you a few years to get where you should be to compete in your niche. If you want to start obliterating your competition sooner than later, then you need to seek out the proper training from someone who is already skilled at Internet marketing.

Fortunately for you, we have found the best kept secret in Internet marketing. A company that provides a corp of professional SEO specialists, web designers, salespeople, Internet marketers, and many more specialized individuals who will train you on ALL the different aspects of Internet marketing… all this is free. Veretekk IS the best kept secret. Everyone on the planet, who runs an Internet business, should be a member of Veretekk.

2. Buy domain names for your replicated URL’s or Affiliate links.

When becoming an affiliate or a member of XYZ opportunity, you will be assigned a unique URL that can be used to promote your opportunity or affiliate products. Do not use this URL as your only link to your product. Buy a domain name from a registrant such as GoDaddy.com, they cost between $8.00 and $10.00 per year. Cheap.

Example:

Assigned replicated website URL: www.jagmarketingsystem/rep/xeroteam

Possible domain name I might purchase: www.Jaguar-Marketing-Income.com

Assigned affiliate link: www.lenestrada.richjerk.hop.clickbank.net/

Possible domain name I might purchase: www.RichJerkProgram.com

Be sure to read the Terms & Conditions for your particular program to see if there are any limitations on which domain names you can purchase. Some don’t care, others don’t allow you to use their trademarks in your URL.

Once you own your own domain name, you can redirect it to your replicated or affiliate URL. Be sure to pick a name that contains your keywords… this is CRUCIAL! Always try to use your keywords in your URL’s when allowed. (i.e. Myspace, facebook, freewebs) Once you’ve redirected your new domain, you can now submit it to the search engines, add it to directories, and do link exchanges, to name a few. Doing this will greatly increase your chances at landing the top spot in Google for your specific keywords.

3. Submit all your URL’s to the major search engines.

There is NO need to purchase memberships to companies that offer “Search Engine Submitters.” These are rip-offs. Submitting your URL’s to the 3 major search engines below will be sufficient and will only take you 2 minutes. And plus, it’s free.

Submit to Google

Submit to Yahoo!

Submit to MSN Live

Don’t buy into the hype that you need to submit to “thousands” of search engines. A lot of the search engines index off of these top 3. This is all I do, and it works great. If you still feel the need to add your site to many SE’s, visit this link for a list of the “other” top search engines.

EDIT:
As you develop your skills as an Internet marketer and blogger, you’ll see that submitting your sites to the search engines in this way is not necessary. Once you have a blog such as this one, that is highly optimized for search engines, Google will index your new pages and posts almost immediately… automatically.

4. Do NOT spam.

People hate spammers, I hate spammers, the people you spam will hate you. You will not make a living this way, so get over it. Instead, build a list of subscribers who actually WANT to hear from you. Create a newsletter that these people would like to read on a regular basis. Then once or twice a month send out a sales letter describing “The Next Best Thing,” or whatever it is your marketing. There are many resources on creating newsletters, do a simple Google search.

Now, how do you build a list of subscribers? See my post on Veretekk. Veretekk offers a push-button system on building a list and marketing to that list.

5. Create a blog and keep it updated.

Search engines love blogs and their fresh content. If you don’t run a blog then you are 10 steps behind your competition. Don’t forget to use your keywords in your posts, but don’t overdo it. You actually want to have useful information, not just a page of keywords, this is considered spam by search engines and they WILL penalize you for it.

There are resources on the net that can get you started with a blog. I personally use WordPress. The SE’s love it.

Other examples are:

Blogger.com

TypePad.com

Bloglines.com

6. Create link exchanges and increase your link popularity.

I suggest using www.link2me.com. It’s free, takes a little setup but well worth it. The more sites that link to you, the higher you climb in the search engines, it’s that simple. Link popularity is one of the top 3 ways to higher SE rankings.

Ask other people in your niche to do link exchanges with you. Whenever you see an opportunity to leave a link to your website, do it. Contribute your opinions and expertise to forums in your niche, leave a link. Remember, don’t spam. Also, remember to use your KEYWORDS as a link to your site. DO NOT use “click here”, or “check it out”. Although this type of anchor text will still pass PageRank, it doesn’t do any good when Google calculates your content score.

7. Having one email address isn’t gonna cut it.

Pick an email client or provider that will only block the emails that you specify. Spam filters are increasingly effective at junking what the Average Joe doesn’t want in his or her inbox. We, as Internet marketers, will need to manually filter through ours to look for confirmation emails.

Gmail is the best in my opinion. It’s free, user friendly, and gives you 6 GB’s of space. It also allows you to place labels on groups of emails, and has a great filtering feature.

You will need to have an email address that you want legitimate customers to contact you at. You may have 1 or 2 of these per business / income stream. You should also have a spam email address…this will be used when submitting to free classified ad sites, ad blasters, etc. You will learn, over time, when to give your legit email as opposed to your spam email. I call it a “spam email” because you’re going to get spammed like crazy when submitting your info to these sites. Don’t worry, it’s part of the business.
